Begin your journey with a stop in the artisan town of Sarchí, the production center of hand-painted oxcarts for over a century. This is how coffee farmers transported their beans on the narrow paths and roads of this mountainous country. A visit to the Sarchí oxcart factory provides you with an opportunity to witness the creation of one of these vibrantly colored carts that are sold worldwide. A picture perfect stop will be made at the highland town of Zarcero, which is famous for its topiary garden sculpted from Cyprus trees. Prior to your arrival in the Arenal region, you will be stopping to enjoy a typical Costa Rican lunch.
The Arenal volcano has been active since 1968 and the volcanic activity has been very diverse over the years. The Tabacón River originates in this fascinating “Mountain of Fire”. The Tabacón Grand Spa and Thermal Resort will be your destination for the next few hours, this resort gives you the pleasure of a healthy and relaxing soak in the variety of hot springs pools. Be caressed by the cool night air while observing the stars and the incredible night sky above the volcano. Now relaxed it will be time to enjoy the sumptuous buffet dinner followed by your return to San José.
